What is a Will, Anyway?

People talk about the necessity of preparing a Will, but what is a Will, exactly? A Will is a legal document that can be used for a number of purposes. You can use a Will to:

Why Not Use a Do-it-Yourself Will?

Do-it-Yourself Will options can be attractive, after all, they offer the promise of being cheaper and quicker than having an attorney prepare your Will. But there are dangers when it comes to Do-it-Yourself Wills. For example:

  • Do-it-yourself Wills often lack the detail to accommodate special circumstances, like blended families or dependents with special needs
  • Answering a question inaccurately or using the wrong terminology can spell disaster
  • Preparing a Will without knowledge of tax law or other legal intricacies can make that Will less than effective
